The year 2020 was not very easy for many of us - but the year 2021 will be better!
As we are just at the beginning of a new year and new challenges, every one of us sets some resolutions that they are striving to achieve in the new, following year. These resolutions can be from many different aspects, but since we do not know what the New Year brings, and taking notes from 2020, each of us needs to start practicing a more conscious lifestyle. There is no doubt that this will have a positive impact on ourselves and on those around us. So where do we start? How about "self-care" while practicing social distancing?
What is self-care?
The lifestyle that modern living applies, does not allow many of us to simply relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. Self-care means taking time for yourself, taking care of yourself, and pampering yourself. Many can only confirm that self-care and "me-time" are important. Psychologists and coaches recommend suggest taking at least one hour a day as “me-time” and enjoy that hour however you like. But the best and most efficient way of achieving the state that will keep the body and mind healthy and beautiful is the self-care and self-love. The focus here is on self-care and self-love. It seems difficult to ensure a full hour for yourself. And also this every day? Almost impossible for many. But it's worth a try, even when it means you can't do a favor for another person.
Lately, self-care has become a very trendy word that is the essence of many studies and physiological researches. Namely, as the name suggests itself, self-care means caring for yourself. It is a relationship that every individual has with their inner self. This relationship can be a bit forgotten and that is mostly because of the lifestyle and the way of life the one practices. The best and most common definition of self-care is taking the time and caring for yourself. Everyone differently defines their “me-time”: for some, it can be a trip to the spa, for others a warm, bubbly bath at home and for others reading a book or drinking a glass of wine. Self-care as a concept affects mental, emotional and physical health. It is often overlooked and much needed when it comes to improving the mood and reducing anxiety.
Why self-care is important
In times of constant stress, lack of time and the need to be at multiple places at the same time, we can greatly feel the effect of hectic everyday life. In addition there is the factor " ᑕ OᖇO ᑎᗩ ". Self-love and self-care are key to mental health and well-being as well as coping with anxiety and depression. Practicing these concepts is especially valuable for those who work too hard, always looking for their best, striving for success and perfection. This overwork can lead to many physical and mental imbalances and dissatisfaction.
Can self-care be selfish?
Both the terms and the concepts contain the word "self". This means that they are tailored to an individual. In no way does self-care and self-love suggest anything selfish. On the contrary, taking time and enjoying yourself can lead to greater things. A relaxed and fresh body and mind are more productive and efficient. Everyone needs a time that allows one to nurture the skin, body and mind, to recharge and to build self-confidence. It's a nice ritual to take a break from everyday life and recharge your batteries.
It is just the right time in the New Year to make the resolution to take more time for yourself and to practice more of self-care and self-love. This care for yourself should be something that relaxes you, satisfies you, and of course, what you enjoy doing. Anything that will make you feel better inside and out.
Here are five helpful ideas that will get you inspired for practicing more self-care and self-love:
1. Learn how to be alone
The best possible way to recharge your batteries is to love and enjoy yourself. That means being alone and concentrating on yourself. For example: go for a walk alone and listen to what your thoughts have to say.
2. Find a new hobby
Finding a new hobby that you will practice throughout the entire year is a great way to do something that you love and enjoy. Think of something creative: learn how to mix cocktails, how to prepare food from other countries, or start a DIY project to improve your home. All of these will fulfill and satisfy you.
3. Physical activities
Although it sounds like a cliché, exercise or physical activity can contribute to overall wellbeing. It can be simple stretching that you do for 15 minutes. No matter what, the main thing is that you have fun. And if sport is not your thing, don't worry ;) There are a lot of other ideas you can do.
4. Home spa
At-home skincare routine can frequently be neglected for some other house chores. A small ritual or a simple skincare routine can already help you to feel more comfortable in your own skin. Combine a bath or manicure with a sheet mask. Sheet masks are simple and efficient when it comes to facial care and bringt back the "glow" of your face.
5. Learn to say "no"
It is important to learn to say no. Sometimes it feels more difficult than it actually is. You don't have to feel bad about turning down someone's request. The person will understand if you explain to them that you don't have the capacity for further tasks. Always saying yes will burn you out at some point.
Try to implement the concept of "me-time" and self-care into your daily, weekly, or monthly routine. Self-care doesn't always have to be something extravagant, or expensive. On the contrary - find something that makes you happy and content. It should bring you joy, relax and make you smile.
Let this 2021 be the right time and the new beginning for a stronger and healthier person, who loves and takes care of yourself. You will see some things will change to the better and the people around you will notice. It will most definitely be motivating and inspiring.
